Anne Tudor – Member’s Statement
Ms ADDISON (Wendouree) (09:58): Congratulations to Ballarat’s Anne Tudor, OAM, on being awarded Victorian Senior of the Year. Anne has been recognised for her tireless work in campaigning for dementia awareness and inclusive aged-care services for the LGBTIQ+ community.
Anne’s wife, Edie Mayhew, was diagnosed with dementia at the age of 59. Sadly Edie died last year at the age of 69. Together Anne and Edie launched the Bigger Hearts Dementia Alliance project in Ballarat with the goal of alleviating the stigma and hardship experienced by those battling dementia.
Anne’s advocacy for those with dementia has included giving evidence at the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety regarding the treatment of older LGBTIQ+ Australians. This is a well-deserved award for an outstanding Victorian.
