New Ballarat Station car park now open
The first stage of the massive redevelopment of Ballarat’s Station Precinct has now been completed with the opening of the new Ballarat Station car park and access road.
Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison and Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle, representing the Minister for Regional Development Jaclyn Symes, opened the 405 space multideck car park today which includes car spaces for people with disabilities, as well as CCTV cameras and lightning across all three levels for increased commuter safety.
Approximately 16,500 tonnes of soil and rock have been removed during the construction of the carpark with local Ballarat contractors providing concrete, plumbing, steel, landscaping, panel and engineering services.
A further 1,000 free car parking spaces will be delivered in Ballarat as part of the $30 million Regional Car Parking Fund, taking further pressure off local street parking.
Customer service staff and traffic personnel will be on hand for the next few days to direct commuters to the new car park which is accessed from Nolan Street. There is then a covered walkway leading to the railway overpass and platforms.
The previous gravel car park is now closed so that work can begin on Stage Two of the Ballarat Station Precinct redevelopment. This will include upgrading the historic Goods Shed, a new convention and events centre, a Quest Apartment Hotel, shops, restaurants, a bus interchange and a new public plaza.
The Governments $32 million investment in the Ballarat Station Precinct transformation is providing 140 jobs during construction and is being supported by the Government’s $500 million Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund.
The Government is continuing to deliver for Ballarat with multiple construction projects underway across the city including the new GovHub, upgrades to local roads and rail, and rebuilding the Ballarat Base Hospital.
