Ballarat Set To Light Up As White Night Program Revealed
A stunning White Night Ballarat program promises to wow crowds when the town’s historic centre is transformed in a light and sound spectacular on Saturday, 21 September.
On behalf of Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Martin Pakula, Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison and Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle joined artistic director David Atkins to officially launch the Ballarat White Night program, which will showcase 22 works by local artists.
With works crafted on the theme of lighting ‘a spark’, visitors will be delighted to discover many new installations.
Participants will be invited to interact with a Rube Goldberg machine in Action Reaction – an educational and entertaining installation integrating physics with technology created by Stephanie Wallace and Ballarat Tech School.
Local artist Stuart Walsh returns with Cherubim On A Sunday Drive Through Hell – a multimedia installation reflecting on climate change in a manufactured Garden of Eden.
The work of Ballarat’s emerging and established special-needs artists will also be showcased in a collection of short works which play with the meaning of words and how they affect our feelings.
Throughout the night, visitors will enjoy live music and roving entertainment as well as projections on some of Ballarat’s iconic heritage buildings.
Last year 60,000 people, including more than 15,000 from beyond the region, flocked to White Night in Ballarat, with the event generating more than $5 million for the local economy.
White Night Ballarat will take place Saturday, 21 September from 7:00pm until 2:00am. For more information on the program and how to get there, visit whitenight.com.au/ballarat.
