Construction underway for Delacombe PS new gym
Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison today joined with Delacombe Primary School Principal Scott Phillips to inspect the initial construction works on the school’s $6.5 million competition grade gymnasium.
The project includes the construction of a competition grade indoor gymnasium along with associated facilities such as a canteen, changing rooms, toilets, offices and landscaping works. It is expected that work will be completed by the middle of next year. The new gym will be welcomed by the growing school community who currently hold their assemblies in nearby Doug Dean stadium which is not fit for purpose and is freezing cold in Winter and boiling hot in Summer.
Ballarat company H.Troon has been appointed to build the gym, and they estimate that up to 40 workers will be on site during the peak construction period. Many of the construction materials for the build will be manufactured locally at the H.Troon headquarters in Creswick Rd, creating not only construction jobs, but manufacturing jobs for our community.
By partnering with H Troon, this investment in education is also an investment in jobs and our local families. The funding for this project was fast tracked as part of the Victorian Government’s Building Works Program designed to get shovels in the ground and people back to work, as we move into a COVID recovery period.
It was the strong advocacy of the school community that brought about this project and its construction will ensure that Delacombe Primary School will have world class facilities to match the world class teaching and learning occurring there.
Under the Andrews Labor Government’s school building boom, a total of 100 new schools will open by 2026, ensuring every child has a great local school and a great start in life.
The Andrews Labor Government has invested $7.2 billion to deliver more than 1,460 school upgrades, supporting over 7,500 construction jobs for Victorians.
The Labor Government is building the Education State so that every student can access a great local school and get a quality education.

Quotes attributable to Delacombe Primary School Principal Scott Phillips
“We are extremely fortunate to receive the addition of a first class stadium on our school site. We see it as not just a win for our students and staff but for the Delacombe community. We have always seen the stadium as an integral part of the Delacombe Reserve, which is accessed by so many community members and sporting groups. We look forward to its opening in April 2021 and developing a strong sporting culture in Delcombe”.
