The Andrews Labor Government is making sure young people at risk of homelessness in Ballarat have a roof over their heads.

Minister for Housing Richard Wynne visited five new townhouses built by the Labor Government, and met the tenants who have begun moving into the two-bedroom dwellings.

The townhouses in Mount Pleasant were built as part of the Labor Government’s Accommodation for Homeless program.

The CHAnge (Central Highlands Area nurture, grow, engage) project was one of eight projects across the state to receive funding for new or improved properties.

The Accommodation for Homeless program is all about addressing homelessness by growing and improving the supply of crisis accommodation and long-term housing so that Victorians facing crisis can get their lives back on track.

The CHAnge project is being driven by the Government in partnership with the Uniting Church, Uniting Housing Australia, SalvoConnect Western, Ballarat Community Health, Child and Family Services Ballarat, Berry Street and Uniting Tas Vic.

CHAnge provides short-term accommodation to help young people build a more positive future. It’s targeted towards people aged 16 to 23 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Tenants are supported by dedicated youth homelessness workers to help young people learn to live independently, return to education or find stable jobs.
