Ballarat Life Activities Club – Member Statement
Juliana ADDISON (Wendouree) (10:16): A warm welcome to Ballarat Grammar, who have just entered the chamber today.
Congratulations to the Ballarat Life Activities Club on their world record attempt for the largest exercise class of people aged over 60. On a sunny morning on Tuesday 22 October at Lake Wendouree nearly 100 seniors from across Ballarat and beyond took up the challenge to get themselves into the Guinness book of world records. Impressively the oldest participant was 91 years old. Well done to club secretary Geraldine Lynch for coming up with the idea to bring older community members together for the world record attempt.
It is unclear how many people needed to participate in the class to feature in the Guinness book of world records, because the record does not yet exist. Whilst getting into the record books will be an amazing achievement, the participants are already winners as they build social connections and improve their health and wellbeing.
I wish Geraldine and the Ballarat Life Activities Club all the best for the record and look forward to it becoming an annual event that gets bigger every year.
