Original constituency question from Juliana Addison MP to Parliament –

My question is for the Minister for Education about funding for Mount Rowan Secondary College in my electorate of Wendouree.

Over the last four years the Andrews Labor government has already invested $12 million in Mount Rowan Secondary College, redeveloping the school. Minister, how will the additional $3.5 million investment for Mount Rowan Secondary College announced in last week’s state budget further benefit the students, teachers and broader school community?

As a former teacher myself, I know that you have a very strong commitment to teaching and learning as well as student outcomes at Mount Rowan Secondary College. On behalf of my community I thank you for your ongoing support.

Response from the Hon James Merlino MP, Deputy Premier & Minister for Education (1st July 2019)  – 

Firstly, I wish to commend you on your advocacy on behalf of the Mount Rowan Secondary College community.

The Andrews Labor Government is committed to investing in education and school infrastructure. This has been demonstrated through the allocation of more than $5.6 billion to school infrastructure in the last five State Budgets. Having modern and up-to-date classrooms and school facilities is a fundamental part of ensuring that every child has the best possible education. We cannot build the Education State without investing in our schools’ bricks and mortar.

In the run-up to the 2018 State Election, the Government made a commitment to invest a further $3.6 million for additional upgrades at the college. I am pleased to announce that we have followed through with this commitment by allocating $3.6 million to Mount Rowan Secondary College through the 2019-20 State Budget. This funding will deliver upgrades to the college’s gymnasium and music block, and provide a new synthetic court for the benefit of students, teachers and the wider community.
