Original constituency question from Juliana Addison MP to Parliament –
My constituency question is directed to the Minister for the State Electricity Commission, the SEC, regarding the Allan Labor government’s support for Victorians to save money on their energy bills and switch their homes to electricity.
I am so pleased that the SEC consumer pilot has been launched in three local government areas across Victoria – the City of Ballarat, the City of Casey and Merri-Bek City Council. How will the SEC consumer pilot support constituents in my electorate of Wendouree to switch to all electric?
I would like to thank the minister for her continued support for the Wendouree community and for choosing my local government area, the City of Ballarat, for the rollout of the SEC consumer pilot.
Response from the Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio MP, Minister for the State Electricity Commission (4 October 2024) –
The State Electricity Commission (SEC) is helping Victorians save money on their energy bills and switch their homes to electricity.
The SEC consumer pilot, which has been launched in three local government areas across Victoria – the City of Ballarat, the City of Casey and the City of Merri-bek – is the next step to delivering a one-stop shop for consumers wanting to switch to electric.
The SEC pilot includes a free digital platform that walks users through a short survey about their home and energy usage and then tailors a plan to cut their energy bills through electrification. It includes suggestions for suitable appliances, indicative costs, return on investment, government rebates, and emissions reductions.
If customers require more information or would like to upgrade their appliances, they can connect with a local installer who has been vetted by the SEC. Installers can make a free house visit to provide a more detailed quote. Households only pay installers if they wish to proceed, when the time is right for them.
The SEC is also informing consumers about improvements available to households on all budgets. This includes small, cost-effective steps that can be taken immediately, to larger investments that can be made when their current appliances reach end of life. The SEC is running online public information sessions that offer expert advice and virtual home tours to support Victorians at all stages to go electric, helping energy users understand the benefits of home energy improvements.
