Wendouree Electorate Planning – Ministerial Response

Original adjournment matter from Juliana Addison MP to Parliament –

The adjournment matter that I wish to raise is for the Minister for Planning, and the action I seek is for the minister to come to my electorate of Wendouree to meet with stakeholders to discuss our plan for Victoria.

The Allan Labor government is preparing a plan for the whole of the state, and I want to ensure that the plan both includes and reflects the voices of the Ballarat community. I would welcome the opportunity for the minister to join me to hear from representative bodies, businesses and community organisations within my electorate about how we can make the Victoria of the future an even better place to live, work and play.

Such a visit to the Wendouree electorate would enable the minister to hear directly from my community about what they love about where they live – which is many, many things, I am sure – and what we need to prioritise when planning for the future. While not wanting to pre-empt this discussion, some ideas may include more diversity in the styles of homes we are building as well as more affordable homes; access to public transport as well as active transport options; the greening of our community spaces; and the creation of vibrant and social places for people to connect and to thrive.

I look forward to hearing a response from the minister.

Response from the Hon. Sonya Kilkenny MP, Minister for Planning (6 September 2024) –

I thank the Member for Wendouree for raising this matter.

It was a pleasure to join the Member in her electorate on Wednesday 21 August 2024 at the Greater Ballarat Community roundtable to discuss the new plan for Victoria.

Over the past six months, we’ve been engaging with Victorians about their vision for our state to the year 2050. The new plan focusses on areas such as affordable housing and choice, equity and jobs, thriving and liveable suburbs and towns, and sustainable environments and climate action.

This new plan will supersede Plan Melbourne, to ensure that Regional Victorians have their voices reflected in how we want Victoria to look in the future.

Attending forums such as the Greater Ballarat Community roundtable, as well as the other pop ups and community consultation we have undertaken in the Wendouree electorate is all about ensuring Regional Victorians are being heard as we pave the way for improved housing and employment choice, as well as protecting the environment and farmland on the edges of our towns and cities.

I thank the Member for the invitation to hear firsthand from the Ballarat community about what they want to see as we shape the future of Victoria.
