The Andrews Labor Government is another step closer to delivering the massive Ballarat Base Hospital redevelopment, with four industry leaders shortlisted for the contract. Built, Icon, John Holland and Multiplex will be vying for the contract– the successful builder will be announced later this year with construction to start shortly afterwards.

The contract will be responsible for delivering the new multi-level hospital tower which includes a new emergency department, women’s and children’s hub, state-of-the-art theatre suite, a new helipad and an extra 100 beds.

Meanwhile, the search for a builder to deliver an additional 400 car parking spaces as part of the massive redevelopment is also underway – which will take pressure off local roads and give patients easier access to the hospital.

Together, the two packages of work will support thousands of local construction jobs and provide training opportunities for regional apprentices and trainees.

To accommodate construction of the new car park, Grampians Health are developing a new temporary car park and will be shared with the community in due course.

Once open, the upgraded hospital will have the capacity to treat at least 18,000 more emergency patients and an extra 14,500 inpatients each year.

This investment from the Labor Government will mean more patients can receive the care they need when they need it.
